From June 04 – 10, 2017 in Copenhagen, as a part of the major international Danish theatre festival: CPH STAGE, Chekhov International Theatre School is hosting the educational venue Within the Art of Acting: “DISCOVER THE METHOD” — under the artistic direction of the most innovative master teacher of Lee Strasberg’s Method today, an actress, stage director, writer and editor of “The Lee Strasberg Notes” & “The Method Acting Exercises Handbook” – LOLA COHEN (USA).
This highly intensive seven-day course will help actors to finesse their understanding of Lee Strasberg’s Method. Participants will learn and practice the foundation exercises of The Method, as well as experience a training of the imagination, the senses, and emotions, including relaxation and sense and emotional memory exercises. These Method exercises develop a strong will through a process of exploration and discovery, which leads to a more truthful and organic expression of behavior.
Improvisation, rehearsal procedures, working on the text, and how to apply the exercises when building a character for a monologue or scene will be practiced, performed and critiqued. (Please download preparation for the work on this page to the right.)
Lee Strasberg’s (1901–1982) practice of actor’s training turned the Stanislavsky System into the world-renowned American Method that became an important contribution to XX – XXI century acting. The Method teaches you how to put into practice your own sense of truth in each role, and to emphasize ways in which personal experience can excite the imagination. This is the spark that turns technicians into inspired artists. This is what makes an actor who explores The Method of Lee Strasberg always vital, successful, and beautifully inspired.
The Method trains the actor to use their own personal experiences, feelings, emotions and truths, fusing them together with the inner psychological life of the character. The actors perform live on stage and respond truthfully to the imaginary circumstances created by the author. Incredible creativity arises when molecules of the imagination of an actor, the will and emotions permeate all!
Participants will have an opportunity to share their artistic work at presentational public showcase and symposium afternoon on Friday June 09th, 2017 at Copenhagen Main Library.
We firmly expect that our time together with Lola Cohen in Copenhagen will give our participants the tools for applying Lee Strasberg’s Method to their own work, and will further their acting craft with an even greater and more realistic expression in their work as artists. “DISCOVER THE METHOD” will unfold as part of the CPH STAGE theatre festival at one of the most historic and atmospheric gems in the City of Copenhagen — The Chapel at The Assistens Cemetery.
Only 22 participants will be selected. The day by day PROGRAM for “DISCOVER THE METHOD” will be available two weeks before the Master Course commences. The daily schedule hours of the course are: 11 am – 17 pm. The total teaching hours are 32. (Please note that rehearsing and preparation hours for the work are not included in this total.)
The educational venue is designed for graduates/professional actors, stage directors and acting coaches. It is also possible to enroll as an observer. The teaching will be given in English. A Continuing Education Master Class Certificate will be issued upon successful completion.
OUR MASTER COURSES WILL STRIVE TO UNEARTH AND UNFOLD EACH PARTICIPANT’S UNIQUE POTENTIALITIES AND SUPPORT PARTICIPANTS AS THEY REFINE, THROUGH PERSISTENT AND DEDICATED WORK, THE CREATIVE PROPOSITIONS THEY HAVE EACH BROUGHT TO THE WORK.
This offering is proudly presented by Chekhov International Theatre School in Melikhovo (Russia). In collaboration with The Chapel at The Assistens Cemetery, TELLtoJOY Theatre, Copenhagen Main Library and CPH STAGE.
